Are your dates just like Sesame Street characters? - Examiner

Is your love life like a Sesame Street - episode with grouches, monsters and frogs?

Our salon, a group of kindred spirits, gets together to discuss love, life and the wide wonderful world of dating. At the last gathering, it dawned on us that the men we were dating were straight out of Central Casting from: Sesame Street.

Cindy, who is sunny and sweet, was dating Charlie, who we all called 'Oscar the Grouch' because of his frequent dour moods. Despite his wonderful season tickets to the opera and the ballet, Cindy finally admitted they were not a match. His gloomy moods and lack of interest and energy were an obvious dead end. She was going to break up with him. On Easter morning, he presented her with a sleek new iPad. For months, Cindy had been seduced by all the iPad hype. Her mantra had been "iWant – iPad." Realistically, it didn't take strength of character to return the slim, sexy, little the mouse free machine and cease-and-desist with Oscar. She can buy her own iPad. Happily.

Elmo

For two weeks, Mindy, the paralegal, was exuberant about the cute new guy in her life, Peter, a gregarious redhead. We called him "Elmo" because he was so sweet and uncomplicated. What Mindy neglected to mention was Elmo didn't have an ambitious bone in his body and had been unemployed for over three years.

His idea of a good time was collecting his Unemployment check and food stamps and concocting a fabulous dinner party and then being out of money for a month. Evidently, with all his charm and connections, he camped, a lot, at 'friends' homes. Our little Elmo was charming and fun to be with, but rootless. Unbeknownst to most of us, he was hovering on the precipice of homelessness. When Mindy put two and two together, she extricated herself from Elmo- realizing it was also a dead end unless she wanted to support him. She didn't.

Dueling Dates: Bert and Ernie

Bert and Ernie were the affectionate names we gave to Sherry's dueling dates. We all marveled that Sherry dated two men concurrently- both guys were sweet and sometimes available. The Bert guy was opinionated, not great around people, but dedicated, and very good to Sherry. He was generous, bright, and organized wonderful parties. He was a very distant and aloof host. He was a world traveler, but had the black side of a depressive. The two evaporated from one another's lives easily.

The Ernie character was like a puppy. He was outgoing, optimistic, convivial and always up for new experiences. At first, Sherry was on Cloud Nine. Ernie was newly separated after a lengthy marriage and was exploring his new freedom and being suddenly single again.

Sherry began to observe the "kid in a candy store" mentality Ernie displayed. He wanted to date around and date a lot. Sherry saw all the signs and bid Ernie happy trails.

Luis is the "the man"

Realistically? Everywoman wants to date Luis – the first human to move on to Sesame Street – he is a dreamy dreamer – a handy man – who serenades with a guitar and can fix anything. And, he specializes in toaster repair. That's hot. His bio says "He is a dreamer who follows his heart, and is also an aspiring writer. He sings, plays the guitar, and teaches people about Hispanic culture and language". That's cool.

The Salon agreed we had met princes, monsters, gentlemen and grouches- it takes a village. So far: life is sweet and it was unanimous: no one wanted to live on Sesame Street... or Wisteria Lane.

"Before I met my husband, I'd never fallen in love. I'd stepped in it a few times" Rita Rudner

Jim Carrey tweets a smile as he splits with Jenny ... - CNN

Posted: 07 Apr 2010 05:11 PM PDT

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Jim Carrey gave no hint of what led to his breakup with Jenny McCarthy in his short announcement via Twitter on Tuesday, but he punctuated it with his trademark smiling emoticon.

"Jenny and I have just ended our 5yr relationship. I'm grateful 4 the many blessings we've shared and I wish her the very best! S'okay! ?;^>"

The comedic actor's next tweet was even cheerful:

"Be of good cheer folks! It's a beautiful world, and we're all gonna get what we need the most! ?;^>"

Carrey issued another message to fans Wednesday morning:

"I appreciate your well wishes today! All of you folks together make One Mighty Heart! Spanks! ?;^>}=<;"

McCarthy acknowledged in 2008 that she and Carrey were living together but had no plans to marry. And in past interviews, they insisted that they didn't need "a piece of paper" to verify their relationship.

"We've both been married a couple times," Carrey told CNN's Larry King in December 2008. "I like it the way it is, and I think she likes it the way it is. And that's all we need. I really don't, at this point of my life, feel like I need to have the approval of someone in the collar or a judge to tell us that our relationship is sacred."

Carrey and McCarthy met at actor David Spade's birthday party at a time when he had no girlfriend, he told King. "I was just knocking them off one after another. It was just sick.

"I just stood there in the middle of the room and kind of had that feeling like I was everything I felt," he said. "And she looked at me, and she said, 'You just looked so peaceful that I had to come and talk to you.' "

Carrey said he found McCarthy to be "very sweet," and they began dating.

"You're just lucky while it's there, you know. That's all, just lucky," he told King.

Carrey joined McCarthy in a public campaign for autism awareness after her young son from her marriage to actor-director John Mallory Asher was diagnosed with autism.

The couple founded Generation Rescue, a nonprofit group to help children with autism under the banner "autism is reversible."

Carrey was a stand-up comedian before landing a regular job on the sketch comedy TV show "In Living Color" in 1990. His big-screen career took off with his "Ace Ventura" roles, followed by strong of box office hits that include "The Cable Guy," "Liar, Liar," "The Truman Show" and "Man on the Moon."

McCarthy began her career as a Playboy model in 1994, which later led to acting roles. She also wrote a book on parenting.

Princesses in the Making - Daily Beast

Prince William's girlfriend Kate Middleton may be a commoner, but her sense of style resembles Princess Diana's, at times astonishingly so. VIEW OUR GALLERY. Plus, Tina Brown: A Date for William and Kate.

When Prince William first started dating Kate Middleton in 2003, she was a slim, pretty commoner with a girlish look—sweet and cute perhaps, but hardly fit for a queen. How much has changed since those early days at the University of St. Andrews. The 28-year-old Middleton now sports a distinctly royal sense of style, and soon enough, it looks like she'll get a title to match.

By all accounts a world-class shopper, Middleton has amassed a regal wardrobe in the past few years. In 2006, the Daily Mail reported that her biggest style influence was her mother, Carole. But, sartorially at least, she also bears a striking resemblance to another young woman who married into the Windsor clan: William's glamorous mother, Princess Diana.

Like Diana, Middleton has mastered such staples of British dress as the poufy hat, the equestrian look, and the conservative summer polka dot jumper. VIEW OUR GALLERY of her royal style.
